Provides a visual display of recent earthquake activity on a 3D globe or 2D flat map of the world. View earthquake magnitudes, focus depths, and times. Also displays recently active volcanoes.

You will Learn:

  • the latitude, longitude, magnitude, depth, and time of recent earthquakes
  • the name and location of recently active volcanoes
  • the relationship between earthquakes, volcanoes, and plate boundaries

Features Include:

  • earthquake data that is obtained from a USGS data feed and is updated every 5 minutes (requires an internet connection)
  • controls that set the time range (up to a week) and magnitude range of quakes displayed
  • a selection of maps that show physiographic features, continents, or countries
  • a list of nearby earthquakes at the same location as the one being viewed
  • a map control to view major earthquake locations since 1900
